As a child, I found myself in a reality far removed from what was visible on the surface. To the world, my family epitomized normalcy, yet behind closed doors, the facade crumbled under the weight of psychological abuse and strict religious doctrines.

Born into a Mormon family, the tenets of our faith were strict and unyielding. This rigidity extended into the dynamics of our family life, where my sister was revered as the ideal child, flawless in my parents’ eyes. In stark contrast, I was branded the ‘problem child,’ the unintended mistake, continually misunderstood and sidelined.

My experiences with my sister were particularly harrowing. One incident that remains vivid in my memory is when she threatened me with a knife during a routine household chore. My cries for help, rather than bringing support, only invited accusations and rebukes. I was seen as the provocateur, the one who incited conflict, despite my innocence.

The day my father found me cowering under my bed, his harsh words and forceful actions left physical and emotional scars. Being told that my existence was a burden, a potential cause of grief for my mother, was both devastating and isolating. I felt like an outcast in my own home, misunderstood, and undesired.

Despite these harrowing times, my journey has been one of profound growth and self-discovery. It taught me the resilience to face life’s adversities and the strength to forge my path. I realized that my past does not define me, nor does it dictate my future. It’s in embracing these challenges that I found my true self.

Today, I stand as a testament to the transformative power of resilience and self-acceptance. Through my story, I encourage every woman to recognize her worth, to understand that it’s not the circumstances of our birth or upbringing that define us, but how we rise above them. Embrace your past, no matter how difficult, and let it fuel your journey towards becoming your authentic self.

In this journey of healing and empowerment, remember always to ‘Dare To Be You.’ Find solace in your resilience, and take pride in the strength that has brought you this far. Your story is your power, a beacon of hope for others who might be walking a similar path.

As you read this, if my story resonates with you, or if it reminds you of your own journey, I invite you to share and connect. Together, let us celebrate our triumphs over adversity and our relentless pursuit of self-love and empowerment.
