Once upon a time, we all held a treasure – the unbridled joy and innocence of a child. But as life’s pages turned, many of us lost that precious gift. Have you ever pondered how your innocence slipped away, or why society frowns upon adult childlike wonder?

I recently attended a friend’s child’s birthday and was struck by the pure, uninhibited joy of the children. They played, laughed, and lived in the moment, free from judgment or the burdens of the past and future. This scene stirred a bittersweet realization within me. Unlike these carefree souls, my childhood was a rushed journey towards adulthood, marred by familial expectations and a sister who overshadowed my existence.

In my youth, I was the ‘unwanted’ child, constantly compared to my ‘golden child’ sister. This inequity in parental affection and support hastened my growth, forcing me to view the world through a mature lens far too soon. I remember seeking solace in daydreams, imagining a world where I was cherished and free to be my true self – playful, silly, and, most importantly, loved.

Fast forward to the present, at that birthday party, watching those children. A thought struck me – what if we could recapture some of that lost innocence? While we may not fully regain our childlike naivety, we can certainly reconnect with our inner child. It’s about allowing ourselves to be silly, to laugh without reason, and to cherish those fragments of our younger selves that once brought us unadulterated joy.

Embracing our inner child is an essential step towards living a fulfilled life. It’s a journey of personal development, of peeling back the layers of adulthood to reveal the playful spirit that still resides within us. It’s about not taking life too seriously all the time and finding joy in the little things, just as we did when the world seemed so vast and full of possibilities.

So, I challenge you, dear reader, to recall three joyful activities from your youth that you’ve long abandoned. Reintroduce them into your life for a month and witness the transformative impact they have on your well-being and perspective. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes.

If you struggle to remember those activities, fear not. I am here to guide you. As a coach at ‘Dare To Be You’, I specialize in helping individuals like you rediscover and embrace their inner child. Together, we’ll unlock the door to a life filled with more joy, playfulness, and authenticity.
