In my latest Facebook live session, I shared an exhilarating breakthrough. This Friday, I overcame my long-held fear of public speaking by presenting to an audience of 40-50 people on WebEx for work, thanks to someone who believed in me more than I did in myself.
The moment I was asked to speak on Tuesday, waves of anxiety washed over me. Thoughts raced – I’m usually spontaneous in speech, but this required structured content within a set time. My mind was a whirlpool of ‘what ifs.’
Taking an hour to reflect, I allowed the torrent of doubts to pass. Then, I grounded myself, recalling my essence, my aspirations, and the person I need to be to achieve my dreams. I visualized a successful presentation and, embracing a surge of courage, I accepted the challenge.
Preparing for the speech involved researching the topic and carefully crafting what I wanted to say. Despite the nerves, I recalled a coaching session focused on addressing large audiences. The techniques from that session brought calmness, clarity, and eased my nerves.
When the time came, I stepped into the virtual spotlight and delivered my speech. Despite the butterflies, I stayed positive. Now, reflecting on that experience, I’m filled with pride and a newfound belief in myself. This endeavor taught me that mastering public speaking requires practice and facing one’s fears head-on.
This experience was more than just about speaking; it was a battle within. On one side was the urge to stay in my comfort zone, and on the other, a bold, daring part of me yearning for growth and new experiences. I’m grateful for stepping out of my comfort zone. It wasn’t just about overcoming fear, but about embracing growth and personal development.
So, I pose these questions to you: Have you ever pushed yourself out of your comfort zone in a way that you would willingly repeat for the growth it brought? What was it? How did you transform from before to after the experience? Share your stories of embracing the bold and daring parts of you. ©
