The Importance of dreaming and visualizing your dream life
You know, until the age of 25, I hated reading. I found it boring, and it used to almost always put me to sleep. It was not until they sent me out to a mine site for a company I worked for that I really got in to reading as there was nothing out there for me to do after work every night.
The first book I read that changed my mind on reading was a book that a medical physician gave me instead of putting me on anti-depressants for an extremely traumatic event I went through in Queensland was “The feeling good handbook”. It completely changed my perspective on reading and what reading could do for me. This book was all about acceptance therapy and cognitive therapy. It had so many exercises you could use and implement in your life to change how you felt about life. It was that book that made me realise just how powerful the written words in books really are.
I did not read this book until 8 years after it was given to me and because of that; I went on medication for a few years. I now wonder if I had read that book sooner and went on that personal development journey in the year 2000 how different my life would have played out to this point. Would I have come into the coaching and writing my book sooner? Who knows! But through the power of the written word, I learned how to dream.
I am not much of a visualiser on my own, but when guided in a meditation or visualisation, I get in to more of the feeling of the emotions that are attached to the words the person is saying during the guided meditation/visualisation. Which is truly powerful because once you start feeling the emotions attached to the words, it completely changes your perspective on yourself, your life and everything going on around you.
Therefore, when I coach people I love guiding them through the visualisations and seeing how their posture, physic, tone of voice, and faces light up and their facial expression changes when they are in that visualisation and able to get in touch with those emotions and feel them. This is what inspires and motivates my clients to want to take action and transform to be better versions of themselves that they can be.
This is why you will see a number of the testimonials I have from client are very expressive descriptive. There one in particular who had lost the ability to day dream and visualise about her life even though she is a creative person and works in a creative type of a job she could no longer dream and visualise and there knew she wanted to change things but didn’t know how to. I am really grateful that I could help her with regaining those abilities again as she deserves to be happy. Her testimonial surprised me and put a massive smile on my face, it may have been a short testimonial but what she put in that testimonial was absolutely priceless. This is why I love coaching so very much. ©
